Mr. Koenig literally grew up in the car business. His grandfather was a dealer in the Chicago area for a quarter century and his parents have owned and operated a dealership in Washington since 1975. As a teenager he spent summers washing cars and dealer trading vehicles. Upon graduating from college he worked in the finance department and was the used car buyer at regional auctions.

After earning his law degree, Mr. Koenig practiced as a deputy prosecutor and corporate attorney before returning to the family business. For more than a decade he served as the dealership’s vice president, general manager, and in-house counsel. Through those positions he gained a wide range of experience with day-to-day operations including employment matters, regulatory compliance, franchise relations, customer satisfaction, and third-party vendor contracting. He was also active in the community, serving as president of a Rotary club and the county bar association, and chairing the board of directors of the Washington YMCA Youth and Government Program.

At a time when we all find ourselves associated with an increasingly globalized automotive industry, Mr. Koenig brings an international perspective to his practice. He lived in South Africa for three years and represented a U.S. legal education company expanding its overseas business operations. Simultaneously, he earned a Masters of Law in International Trade Law, focusing his studies on arbitration, tax, and sales.
